Dementia Awareness (CPD certified)
This course will provide students with the vital knowledge needed to begin tackling dementia, through understanding what it is and how to support those who are affected by it.

By the end of the course, students will understand what dementia is, be aware of the key features and theoretical models of dementia, know the most common types of the condition and their causes and understand different factors that contribute to an individual's experience of dementia.
- Understanding what dementia is:
- The key functions of the brain that are affected by dementia
- Why other conditions may be mistaken for dementia
- Understanding key features of theoretical models of dementia:
- Identify models of dementia within health and social care
- Understand dementia as a disability
- Know the most common types of dementia and their causes:
- The most common causes of dementia
- The signs and symptoms of dementia and the risk factors
- Prevalence rates for different types of dementia
- Understanding factors relating to an individual’s experience of dementia:
- How different individuals may experience living with dementia depending on age
- The type of dementia and level of ability and disability
- The impact that the attitudes and behaviours of others may have on an individual with dementia
To attend this course, students will require access to the internet and a web browser application (e.g. Google Chrome).
