Suitable for

Those who already have some experience of using Microsoft Excel, who need to create spreadsheets that include calculations, multiple sheets and charts.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, you will be able to create multiple sheet workbooks, use statistical and logical functions to formulate results and format cells automatically. You will also be able to manipulate data lists for analysis and present data in a graphical format.

Course content

Working with Multiple Worksheets and Workbooks:

  • Moving between worksheets.
  • Inserting, deleting and renaming worksheets.
  • Moving and copying worksheets.
  • Using group editing.
  • Arranging multiple files.
  • Entering formulae across worksheets and workbooks.

Conditional Formatting:

  • Highlighting cells using rules and conditions.
  • Identify trends with data visuals and icon sets.
  • Create new rules and manage existing rules.

More Formulas and Functions:

  • Creating statistical functions.
  • Logical ‘IF’ functions.
  • Calculating percentages.

Manipulating Data Lists:

  • Remove duplicate values.
  • Automatic subtotals and grand totals.
  • Data grouping and outlining tools.
  • Inserting Excel tables.
  • Manipulating data in an Excel table.

Working with Charts:

  • Creating charts and graphs.
  • Quick analysis tools.
  • Formatting charts.
  • Modifying chart layouts.
  • Adding and removing chart elements.
  • Filtering chart data.
  • Creating combination charts.
  • Saving charts as templates.
  • Creating sparklines.
  • Previewing and printing charts.

Course requirements

This course can be delivered remotely or in a classroom environment, to suit your requirements.

Attendees should be able to design and create simple spreadsheets which include basic calculations. They should also be able to use simple formatting tools and use cut, copy and paste effectively. 

Attendees must have the following equipment to attend this training remotely:

  • PC or laptop with a microphone and speakers (webcam is preferred but not essential).
  • Access to the internet and web browser application (e.g. Google Chrome).
  • Microsoft Excel installed on the PC or laptop.
  • An email account for file sharing.
  • A second screen is ideal but not essential.
