Certificate in the Principles of Care Planning Level 2
This qualification aims to improve students' understanding of their role in supporting the preferences and needs of individuals in relation to their care and support. It also aims to enhance knowledge of nutrition in health and social care settings, as well as how to support an individual to maintain their personal hygiene.

This course is suitable for students aged 14 and over. It is ideal for anyone already in, or seeking to enter, the health and social care sector.
Following this course, students will understand person-centred thinking and planning, care planning for the care worker and nutrition and hydration in health and social care settings. Candidates will also be aware of continence care, the principles of supporting sleep and how to support an individual to maintain personal hygiene.
- Understanding person-centred thinking and planning:
- The principles, processes and practice of person-centred thinking, planning and reviews
- The impact person-centred thinking can have on an individual and their families
- Current legislation, policy and guidance that underpins person-centred thinking and planning
- Care planning for the care worker:
- The care planning process in relation to your role and how to implement a care plan
- Personal beliefs and preferences and how they might influence the care planning process
- Understanding nutrition and hydration in health and social care settings:
- How to promote health and well-being through nutrition and hydration
- The principles of a balanced diet
- Special dietary requirements
- Preventing malnutrition in health and social care settings
- Principles of supporting an individual to maintain personal hygiene:
- How to address personal hygiene issues in a sensitive manner without imposing your own values
- Maintaining the dignity of an individual when supporting them with personal hygiene
- Understanding continence care:
- Understanding the body’s waste functions and the possible reasons for incontinence
- Promoting continence
- Understanding an individual’s choices including the various facilities and aids which can be provided
- Principles of supporting sleep:
- The importance of sleep
- How sleep contributes to an individual’s well-being
- How to assist an individual to sleep and ensure conditions are suitable
Candidates will require the following equipment for distance learning:
- PC or laptop with a microphone and speakers (a webcam is preferred but not essential)
- Access to the internet and web browser application (e.g. Google Chrome)
- An email account for file sharing
