Those who are responsible for IT training and coaching on either a one-to-one basis or to small groups.

Learning outcomes

Following this course, delegates will understand how to use fundamental coaching and training techniques related to real life practical scenarios. They will recognise different learning styles and be able to prepare and deliver effective IT tuition using a structured lesson plan.

  • Identifying learner expectations.
  • How and why adults learn.
  • Motivating the self-learning process.
  • Matching methods to styles.
  • Learning styles.
  • Measurement tools.

Module Four - Effective Communication

  • Generating rapport and maintaining interest.
  • Using the 'KISS' concept in explanations and demonstrations.
  • Overcoming ‘techno-fear’.
  • Dealing with luddite attitudes.

Module Five - Delivery Skills

  • Balancing telling and doing.
  • Managing practical sessions.
  • Considerations for practical sessions.
  • Technical problems and system failure.
  • Minimising risks and disruption.
  • Lesson plans.
  • Coaching and delivery techniques.
  • Questioning techniques.

Module Six - Disparate Skills and Experience

  • The mixed status environment.

Course requirements

This course can be delivered remotely or in a classroom environment, to suit your requirements.

To attend remotely, delegates will require the following equipment:

  • PC or laptop with a microphone and speakers (webcam is preferred but not essential).
  • Access to the internet and web browser application (e.g. Google Chrome).
  • An email account for file sharing.

During the course, delegates will be required to demonstrate the skills they have learnt by delivering a number of short coaching and training sessions. In preparation for this, they must consider the subject areas of the sessions they will deliver before attending this course (our tutor can support this).
